The month of September is DC’s Villains Month, and so far, we’re digging it!
I just read two of this month’s villains comic and both were great. They’re straight origin stories. I knew nothing about Count Vertigo, so knowing his origin will add to my reading of the Green Arrow series. The Joker story touched a bit on Joker’s childhood and revealed part of the reason for Joker’s insanity.
Whether you’re looking to enhance the current series you’re reading or to enjoy a stand alone story, these books are great!

We hope you’re enjoying the last few weeks of summer and looking forward to a fun fall. We’ve been busy at the shop since we opened in June, adding and learning about new products, scheduling and hosting events, and the best part, getting to know all the great people who walk through our doors 🙂

We have some great news that will make the wait for the November release of Thor: The Dark World 2013 a little easier: A number of trade paperbacks and hardcovers have become available to us that we can offer to our customers with a a 5% discount! Our next Movie Night is scheduled for Saturday, 8/31 at 7pm. We’ll be showing Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. It’s the last Saturday of August and what better way to unofficially end the summer than with an action-packed comic movie? As usual, seating is BYO (we do have folding chairs in the shop) and we’ll provide the popcorn. There is no cost for the event — but you’re welcome to shop while here! 😉 About the movie: We all wish for the chance to go back in time and change the things. For The Flash, that coveted chance is within reach. He traverses time to right a violent, decades-past crime against his mother, but the ripples of his good intentions prove disastrous, as a fractured, alternate reality now exists in place of the familiar one. Stumbling through this twisted reality where even Superman is nowhere to be found, The Flash seeks the trusted wisdom of Batman, only to find a grittier, more violent Dark Knight in his place. Together, with the help of Cyborg, they race to restore the continuity of Flash’s original timeline while this new world is ravaged by a fierce war between Wonder Woman’s Amazons and the Atlanteans, led by a battle-hardened Aquaman. The film is rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for sci-fi violence and action throughout.

If you’ve been in the shop, you’ve likely heard someone talking about a “pull list.” Whether you’ve been reading comic books for a week or a decade, a pull list is a great tool for any comic book fan. A pull list is just what it sounds like: A list of the comic books you’d like us to pull for you from our shipment each week. It’s like a subscription of your favorite reads.
The primary benefit of maintaining a pull list is not missing an issue in a series that you’re reading. When we get our books in, we fill the pull lists before anything hits the shelves, guaranteeing that you’ll have a copy even if we sell out. Another benefit is not having to come into the shop every Wednesday and not having to remember which of your favorite books are coming out each week. We’ll keep your pull list items behind the counter and you can pick them up whenever you’re in the shop. Finally, when you have a pull list, we’re better able to make personalized recommendations and suggestions for your reading pleasure!

What we’re reading this morning: Kurt Busiek and Brent Anderson‘s Astro City #1 — which finally found a new home at Vertigo. Featuring new and old characters, this book is a great opportunity to jump into the series. The narration and humor makes this a fresh and fun read. In addition to adults, we think teens/young adults will also particularly like this one. Stop in for your copy!
