Halloween ComicFest 2018! Saturday 10/27!
Halloween ComicFest 2018 is an all-day event (11am to 6pm)! Here is a list of some things you can expect:
- Costume contest (winner determine by social media vote).
- FREE COMICS (everyone will be able to get a couple free comics, costumed individuals get more!)
- Store-wide sale!
- Raffle!
- POPCORN from Popcorn Works!
- Scary vibes!
From past years, I can say that costumed people tend to come earlier in the day (which makes sense because there’s a wider selection of comics to choose from). There is a limit on comics, 3-per-person, UNLESS you are wearing a ‘real’ costume, which will allow you to pick more comics. By ‘real’ costume we mean we want to see effort. Just throwing on black cowboy hat and saying your Chuck Norris will not do. Now if you wear a Cardhartt jacket, put a badge on it, don a cowboy hat, squeeze into a pair of skin-tight, stone-washed jeans, slap on a holster and are bad-ass, now THAT’S what we call a costume.
Check out some cool costumes from years past!
With July sales figures in, we see an incredible month for the big two followed by a solid showing for Image Comics taking a little under 10% of the market. To celebrate this astonishing capture of the market, we are offering 25% all independent comics for the month of September?!?!?!
For the month of July, only TWO non-DC/Marvel/Image books cracked the top 100 in sales and one of them featured Batman (Archie Meets Batman ’66 #1)! The other book was Elvira Mistress of Dark #1 (can’t imagine how that happened) from Dynamite Entertainment.
That’s right, we are going to celebrate the OTHER publishers that continue to hang in there and put out new material that often gets overlooked. For the month of September, any new and old release (wall books and CGC comics are NOT included) will be 25% off! Yes, that includes stuff in the white boxes! (sorry, trades are not part of the deal).
There’s Dark Horse, Valiant, IDW, BOOM!, Black Mask, Dynamite, Archie, Titan & all the other independent titles that fly under the radar on a weekly basis to choose from. Why are we NOT including Image Comics? Image does just fine and doubles the sales/units of any other independent publisher. Robert Kirkman does not need our help to sell books, that’s why they are not on the list.
What is included is anything that is on your pull list from the above-mentioned publishers and/or that you put on your pull list and receive in September. We will also give you 25% off any independent back issue, special order(s) that we do for you, regardless of when it comes in from Diamond (let’s see how Turtle handle this one, his head is going to explode).
Did you ever want to try a Valiant book like Bloodshot or Faith! Now’s the time. What about Black Badge from BOOM!? (Oh, you want to read this, it’s AWESOME & is in stock!) Dig in! How about James Bond Origin #1, which comes out this Wednesday? 25% off! Why not dig into some back issues of Breathless from Black Mask or Pestilence from After Shock. How about something from Old England, like Doctor Who? We carry a full line of that weird, English stuff. Want to relive your childhood, how about Mighty Morphin Power Rangers?
We will turn our Staff Picks end cap into an independent book section so you can see what we are reading from the fine independent publishers. I think Turtle’s picks will all be from Black Mask 🙂 Make Mine Independent!
5-Year Anniversary Wrap-up!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Seriously, THANK YOU! Still humbled and still flattered by all the support everyone has displayed not only during our anniversary celebration, but for the 5 years leading up to it (and after, now that it’s been a couple weeks!) I wish I could have taken more pictures, but with it being so busy I didn’t get a chance to get everyone’s picture. Here are some pics of the event; friends, creators and the DJ (including his servant). If you have some, please sent them to me and I’ll get them on the page.
I promise I’ll take more pictures next event.

Dave Perillo was born in 1974, the same year Wham-O introduced the Slip N’ Slide…coincidence? In 1st grade, Dave revealed in his autobiography “Me Book”, that when he grew up he would like to be Ziggy. This ambition was deflated by 2nd grade when he realized that A) Ziggy is not real, B) Ziggy is completely bald, and C) Ziggy wears no pants. While the thought of going throughout life sans pants was somewhat appealing he decided to pursue his second choice, a career in art. Dave draws inspiration for his work from many of the following sources: 1950’s Sci-Fi Movies, Charles Schultz, Jim Flora, Ray Harryhausen, Roy Lichtenstein, Jim Henson, Hanna Barbera, The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock & Character Advertising Icons. Dave currently resides in the burbs of Philly, works as an illustrator, believes that bowling is the sport of kings and a bag of Swedish Fish is a seafood dinner.
Dean Kotz is a comic book artist, illustrator, and concept artist. Some of the many comic titles he’s drawn includeDungeons and Dragons (IDW), The Red Panda (IDW), Charmed (Zenescope), Poe (Boom!), Trailer Park of Terror(Imperium), and Krampus!, a series he co-created for Image Comics. He also does illustration work for many rpg and tabletop games. Dean lives in Brooklyn and is currently working on an original sci-fi graphic novel for Insight Comics.
James Dracoules and Christopher March are the co-creators of the independent horror anthology Trailer Park of Terror, published by Reading, PA based Imperium Comics. In addition to shepherding 14 issues and 2 Halloween specials of the comic, they also served as Executive Producers of the Trailer Park of Terror film.
Rob Ciampa: I am an illustrator/designer living in Bucks County, PA. I work in a variety of styles and mediums, both traditional and electronic, but my favorites are pencils, pen and ink. I have been fortunate to be able to use my talents to help promote the township and local businesses of Perkasie, where I live. I am also a self professed car nut and have created many privately commissioned pieces for classic car owners. My dream is to create a graphic novel or comic series about moon dragons, a creature my daughter and I made up years ago.
Jimmy “DJ Miro” Mirynowski hails from the suburbs of Philadelphia. At a young age Miro took interest in music production and mixing, and officially started his DJ career in 2005. Since then he has created his own mobile DJ company, performing at events such as weddings, parties, and corporate events as well as DJing for various charities including The Make-A-Wish Foundation. He uses one word to define himself as a DJ, which is contrast. Blending every type of music to create a musical experience for every audience.
